How to Obtain a Singapore Dependant’s Pass for Your Family Members

The Singapore Dependant’s Pass (DP) allows immediate family members of foreign workers to enter and reside in the country. This visa is specifically granted to the family members of the worker and is linked to their employment status in Singapore. Each eligible family member must individually apply for their own DP.

Who is Eligible for a Dependant’s Pass?

To secure a DP for their family members, a foreign worker must hold a government-issued work pass such as EntrePass, Employment Pass, PEP, or S Pass. The family members who qualify for the DP are spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21. However, it is important to note that there are certain salary requirements for the primary employment pass holder that must be met in order for the DP to be approved.

Please refer to the table below for a breakdown of eligibility criteria for different types of work pass holders to bring their family members on a dependent pass.

Dependent pass eligibility based on main pass holders:

  • Employment Pass:
  1. Legally married spouse
  2. Unmarried children below 21 years old
  3. Legally adopted children below 21 years old
  • S Pass (Monthly salary > 4000 SGD):
  1. Legally married spouse
  2. Unmarried children below 21 years old
  3. Legally adopted children below 21 years old

Required Documents for DP Application:

In addition to the DP Application Form, applicants must provide the following documents:

  • Copy of the Marriage Certificate
  • Copy of the Birth Certificate(s) of the child(ren)
  • Copy of the Adoption Certificate for adopted child(ren)
  • Copy of personal details page in the passport
  • Educational references of the applicant, if applicable
  • Enrolment details in the Singapore educational system, if applicable
  • Details of salary from the most recent employment, if applicable
  • National Immunisation Registry (NIR) Certificate for child(ren) aged 12 and below, if applicable

Parents must sign on behalf of children below 16 years of age. If any document is not in English, a certified translation must be provided along with a copy of the original certificate.

DP Application Process and Timeline:

Before submitting all the required documents, the employer of the Employment Pass holder must endorse the DP application. The foreign worker can choose to process the EP and DP applications simultaneously or separately. Once all the requirements are met, the approval of the DP is a mere formality. Applying for EP and DP simultaneously will result in simultaneous approval. If filed separately, the DP application will be processed within one to two weeks.

An In-Principle-Approval (IPA) letter is issued once the DP application is approved. The family members must personally collect the DP in Singapore. When collecting the DP, the family member(s) should bring the following documents:

  • IPA Letter
  • One passport-size photo
  • Any other required documents, such as a medical test report, etc.
