Domestic Helper Employer Responsibilities in Singapore

Reviewed against official guidance on 8 September 2026. Prepared by the Little Big Employment Agency editorial team.

A successful helper arrangement requires clear expectations and consistent care. Keep employment administration alongside the household routine.

Salary: pay on time and keep records

Pay at least the salary declared to MOM every month, no later than seven days after the salary period ends. A salary period cannot exceed one month. Keep a clear payment record and discuss any questions promptly. Salary is distinct from levy, insurance and household upkeep.

Rest, food, accommodation and privacy

A helper is entitled to a weekly rest day, agreed with the employer. If she agrees to work on a rest day, compensation must be at least one day’s salary in addition to basic salary. At least one rest day each month cannot be compensated away.

Provide adequate food, safe accommodation, basic amenities and privacy. Do not place cameras in sleeping, changing or bathroom areas, and tell the helper about permitted recording devices. Do not require her to share a room with an adult or teenage male. Introduce appliances and high-rise safety practices carefully, and allow time for communication and adjustment.

Medical checks and health needs

Arrange the six-monthly medical examination when required. It screens for pregnancy and specified infectious diseases. Use the MOM notification and examination form to establish the due date and tests required for the helper. The employer bears the cost and should make the appointment early enough to resolve any missing results.

A household checklist

For an employment dispute, use the appropriate official assistance route. An agency enquiry form is not an emergency channel.
